kthread across America: Atlanta to San Francisco

When my sister Katrina decided she was moving to Portland, we began talking about a road trip.

About eighteen months ago, Katrina and I drove from Washington, D.C. to Santa Cruz in five days; this time, we started in Atlanta on her birthday and headed toward San Francisco, staying with our sister Kassandra (and her wonderful roommates Spencer and Cassy) last weekend before Katrina and her boyfriend Reid drove the rest of the way.

I’ll likely blog soon about the random lavender lady, the chocolate we drove some three thousand miles for, a destination car wash, soul food, and Berkeley raw milk.

For now, here’s the rough cut from the road (looks better in HD); we make Melissa Clark’s fondue at the end—

You two make driving hundreds of miles look like so much fun. How about a “Kat and Kristen Conquer the West” themed playlist?

What a good idea, Dana. I may need your help to round out the playlist; Katrina was in charge of music, of course, and I will say there was plenty of Bright Eyes, Two Gallants, Gillian Welch, and Casey Dienel…

Driving three thousand miles for chocolate! Wow you are as big a fan as I am :) BTW, I acually drink raw milk on a regular basis. It is hard to get and expensive, but it tastes great and is very good for you.
