Goji berry juice, superfoods, and hyperlocal guilt
In which I talk about a food product—acknowledging that Michael Pollan says plants, not products—that I hate to love (even more than this terrible screenshot below):
What do you think about goji berries?
Do you share my unlocal superfood guilt? My love for the Gummi Bears? (Guess what color gummi berries have to be in the juice.)
Please vote below. And with your dollars, of course, at your local community grocer.
p.s. Ben, great Twitter last night—we are definitely on for a kthread cooks superfood smoothie episode when you visit Miami—

I think Goji berries are good, but they are a bit bitter/dry when I tried them. Can’t they be farmed somewhere closer? Buying hyperlocal is tough, but you should check out norman brothers market on 87th ave and sw 76 st. they source mostly local. Or drive down (or bike) to homestead there are incredible farmers markets down there. while down there check out knaus berry farm in the redlands for some INCREDIBLE sticky buns and fresh fruit.
I wonder if gummi berry juice was really goji berries…. maybe we could try making gummy bears from goji berries… superfood & delicious!

Brian, gelatinous goji sounds like a fun molecular gastronomy experiment to me.
I have been to Homestead and find it slightly weird to buy produce at a flea market, but I’m learning to embrace Miami, such as it is.
Will definitely check out the sticky buns and fruit at the Berry farm, thanks for the tip–

I drink Goji juice everyday, it is much better tasting than eating the berries and more nutritious
