sparkly morning at the greenmarket
and some of the bouquets looked like the season ahead,
some like the height of summer,
near the beautiful berries of Berried Treasures that were profiled in the Serious Eats video on Mountain Sweet Berry Farm this week.
My favorite booth, Evolutionary Organics, had Peruvian sprouting broccoli,
zebra tomatoes with zags, stripes, and pinwheel patterns in their skins,
and a little further down, donut peaches and plums piled up (and I finally bought currants, more on that in a future post).
A few hours later, the Cravings Truck (@nyccravings) pulled up close to where I work, and with Dan, Coco, and Ellen (she’s off to the right of this picture), I hoped this truck full of Taiwanese fried chicken with secret pork sauce would stop by again soon,
(they are accepting donations for Taiwan’s recent typhoon and donating net proceeds to relief efforts).
Eating the last of the strawberries this morning, I am musing on where I may be this weekend—wherever I am, I’ll be cooking…

Did you try the Peruvian sprouting broccoli? Unsurprisingly, I have never heard of this cruciferous vegetable! Is it bitter?
And I love that the ugliest tomatoes are often the tastiest ones!

Dennis, when are you up here next? Say soon. We’re going to on a food cart tour of the city. This is happening. (And, I’m beyond happy as a Brooklynite.)
