I’ve blogged before about eating mussels when it’s snowy and cold (and wanting to debeard certain friends and acquaintances); for lunch today, I chopped chervil and simmered a generous pound of cleaned mussels with half a cup of Bordeaux Blanc (a Sauvignon/Semillon), 2 chopped shallots, 2 chopped garlic cloves for five minutes before stirring in the chervil and a few tablespoons of butter.

With a crusty baguette as a utensil and the glorious wine broth, I ate contentedly, thinking how nicely bistro food fits weekend afternoons.

Something about each shell holding a few little pieces of simmered shallot makes the dish one to linger over, especially as it comes together in ten minutes or so…
